چکیده

74 Introduction ‘Mixed methods’ is a research approach whereby researchers collect and analyse both quantitative and qualitative data within the same study. 2 Growth of mixed methods research in nursing and healthcare has occurred at a time of internationally increasing complexity in healthcare delivery. Mixed methods research draws on potential strengths of both qualitative and quantitative methods, allowing researchers to explore diverse perspectives and uncover relationships that exist between the intricate layers of our multifaceted research questions. As providers and policy makers strive to ensure quality and safety for patients and families, researchers can use mixed methods to explore contemporary healthcare trends and practices across increasingly diverse practice settings. This article will outline common types of mixed methods designs and provide examples of how nursing researchers can apply different mixed methods designs in order to answer important nursing practice questions.

The knowledge base for evidence-based nursing: a role for mixed methods research?

Evidence-based nursing is central to the knowledge base for nursing practice. Critics of evidence-based nursing dislike the central role that randomized controlled trials (RCTs) take in providing evidence for nursing, claiming that the context and experience of nursing care are removed from evaluation. Many nursing decisions involve questions regarding the effectiveness of interventions, best e...

Expanding the evidence within evidence-based healthcare: thinking about the context, acceptability and feasibility of interventions.

Evidence-based medicine is crucial to contemporary healthcare. It is dependent on systematic review methodology modeled on an arguably inadequate hierarchy of evidence. There has been a significant increase in medical and health research using qualitative and mixed method designs. The perspective taken in this article is that we need to broaden our evidence base if we are to fully take account ...

Spectroscopic evidence of Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes having amino acid based Schiff base: A special emphasis on in vitro antimicrobial, DNA binding and cleavage studies

A new Schiff base ligand (L) obtained by the condensation reaction of N-acetylaceto-otoluidineand 2-aminopropanoic acid (an amino acid), is used to synthesize four mononuclearcomplexes of [MLCl] and [ML2] types (where M = Cu(II) and Zn(II); L = Schiff base) bykeeping the metal and ligand ratio as 1:1 and 1:2 respectively. This ligand and its complexeshave been characterized on the basis of diff...
